Modules and fees
Our modules are designed for students aged 8 to 14, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis. Our programmes are family-friendly, and participating parents are welcome to bring along toddlers (up to the age of 5) for free.
See our current range of modules here. Each module comprises 4 sessions of 2 hours each. Fees are charged per module, as follows:
Module fees (students)
RM250 per student (group of 10-12 pax)
RM300 per student (group of 8-9 pax)
RM350 per student (group of 6-7 pax)
Members enjoy an automatic discount of RM50 per module.
See below on how to become a member.
Module fees (parents)
RM25 per parent
RM50 per family (if no parents are participating)
Note: Our modules are designed to promote parent-child participation. Involvement of parents (or guardians) also helps us to provide the programme at a reasonable cost. Non-participating parent fees help cover the cost of additional instructors/facilitators. Participating parent fees cover the cost of entrance fees to our facilities.
How to register
There are NO fixed dates and times for classes. Backyard Explorers modules are scheduled on demand. We recommend that parents self-assemble groups of 6-12 children (accompanied by at least 4-5 parents), and then propose dates and times for our consideration. Once class slots are confirmed, we’re good to go!
Sessions can run anytime between 8am and 4pm, Mondays through Saturdays.
- Minimum number of participating children and parents
- Your proposed dates and times (have a backup ready)
- Pay a deposit: 50% of module/programme fees
Classes will be conducted in English, Malay or a mix (bilingual), according to each group’s preference. Please speak to us if you have special needs and/or requests.
We consider special charter requests for larger groups on a case by case basis, including conducting modules off-site (for example, in your neighbourhood, in schools, or with local communities). Do get in touch with us directly for a quote.
For a flat rate of RM100 per child (valid until end 2019), members enjoy a range of benefits that include:
- Discounts or fee waivers on programmes, activities and merchandise
- FREE access to member-only activities: workshops, art/science projects, etc.
- Volunteer opportunities at the Museum of Zoology and Rimba Ilmu
- Exclusive, guided access to facilities like the Rimba Ilmu Reading Room
- Participation in our members’ newsletter, The Tuber Times
Note: There is a cap of TWO membership subscriptions per family. For example, a family that has four children participating in our programmes, and wishes to subscribe to a membership plan, only needs to purchase membership for two children.
